Upper blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed on the upper eyelids. It aims to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes by removing sagging and redundant upper eyelid skin.
1. Upper eyelid surgery can address concerns such as excess skin, sagging eyelids, or puffiness to help restore a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance to the eyes and face. 2. Excess skin on the upper eyelids can hang over the eyelashes and obstruct the natural crease, causing a "hooded" or droopy appearance. Surgery aims to restore a more defined eyelid crease, resulting in a refreshed and alert appearance. 3. If one eyelid has significantly more excess skin or drooping than the other, this can create the appearance of asymmetry in the face. Upper eyelid surgery can restore symmetry and bring balance to the upper face. 4. Upper eyelid surgery can provide a significant boost in self-confidence and self-esteem by improving the overall appearance of the eyes and restoring a more youthful look.
Eyelid skin is delicate and often shows signs of aging before the rest of the face. Over time, it thins, stretches, and sags, leading to wrinkles, creases, and a tired appearance. Excess skin can create a hooded look, sometimes touching the eyelashes and limiting space for makeup. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty effectively rejuvenates the eyes and face by removing or tightening this excess skin.
Dr. Moore will review your medical history and discuss your concerns and surgical goals. Through careful evaluation of the upper eyelids, he will determine if you are a good candidate for upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Men and women with excess eyelid skin that is creating a tired or aged appearance often benefit from upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery. If Dr. Moore feels that you are a good candidate for upper eyelid blepharoplasty, he will review the risks and benefits of the procedure with you.
Dr. Moore will first create a customized surgical plan to address your unique anatomy. On the day of surgery, you will receive medicine to relax and local anesthetic to numb your upper eyelids. Next, upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery is performed. Skin and sometimes fat is removed the upper eyelids. The incisions are then closed with suture (stitches). Antibiotic ointment is applied to the incisions. After this, a nurse will help you recover from sedation, and you will go home the same day to rest, relax, and heal.
After surgery, swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common and can usually be managed with Tylenol and cold compresses. Dr. Moore will provide detailed post-operative instructions, including activity restrictions, keeping the head elevated, and using prescribed eye drops and ointments. Most patients can return to normal activities within two weeks, but full recovery and final results typically take about three months.
