Endoscopic Brow Lift Procedure and Recovery

An endoscopic brow lift, also known as an “Endobrow” lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to elevate sagging eyebrows and reduce forehead creases to create a more youthful and rested appearance of the upper one-third of the face. This procedure utilizes an endoscope, a thin tube with a small camera attached. This allows Scottsdale oculofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Grant Moore to view the underlying structures of the forehead and brow without making large incisions.

Before surgery, a thorough medical evaluation is conducted to ensure the patient is a suitable candidate. This includes discussing medical history, current medications, and any previous surgeries. Patients may be advised to stop certain medications, such as blood thinners, and to refrain from smoking, which can impede the healing process. Dr. Moore will also discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations. He will also take photos of your face prior to endo brow surgery.

  • The procedure typically begins with the administration of general anesthesia or intravenous sedation to ensure patient comfort.
  • Three to five small incisions are made within the hairline to minimize visible scarring. These incisions provide access points for the endoscope and surgical instruments.
  • The endoscope is inserted through one of the incisions, allowing Dr. Moore to visualize the underlying anatomical structures on a monitor. This detailed view aids in precise manipulation.
  • Moore will insert specialized instruments to lift and reposition the underlying tissues through the other incisions. The brow will be elevated, excess skin removed if necessary, and the forehead muscles may be adjusted to smooth out wrinkles.
  • When the desired position is achieved, the incisions are closed with sutures or surgical staples, and a sterile dressing is applied.

The recovery period following an endoscopic brow lift varies from patient to patient but generally follows a predictable pattern.

  1. In the immediate postoperative period, patients are observed for approximately 1-2 hours after surgery to ensure no immediate complications. Initial post-surgery effects include swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which are managed with pain medications and cold compresses.
  2. Patients are advised to keep their heads elevated for the first few days after surgery and avoid strenuous activities to reduce swelling. Bruising is expected and can develop on the forehead, brows, and even under the eyes. Ice packs and rest are essential for recovery. A dressing headband may be applied for gentle compression. Antibiotic ointment should be applied to the incisions twice or thrice daily to enhance healing.
  3. Within a week or two, swelling and bruising will significantly improve. Sutures or staples are removed at this time, and nonstrenuous activities, such as walking, can resume. Swelling and bruising typically subside within a few weeks, although it may take three to six months for the final results to become fully apparent. as the scars fade and the brow settles into its new position. Most patients can return to work and normal activities within two weeks but should avoid strenuous physical activities for at least two-to-three weeks
  4. Patients will receive specific instructions regarding wound care, bathing, and activity restrictions. Following these guidelines meticulously is important to prevent complications and promote healing. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor the healing process and remove sutures or staples. During these visits, Dr. Moore will assess the progress, address concerns, and provide additional care instructions.
  5. Full recovery can take weeks to months. As the healing continues, swelling and bruising will gradually diminish, and the incision lines will fade.

An endoscopic brow lift offers several advantages over a traditional one, including small incisions within the hairline, reducing visible scarring. Minimal scarring also means faster healing. Patients typically experience a faster recovery time with an endoscopic brow lift. The less invasive nature of the procedure can help reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort, allowing most patients to resume normal activities within a shorter period.

The results of an endoscopic brow lift are typically long-lasting. By repositioning the underlying tissues and muscles, the procedure addresses the root causes of sagging and wrinkles, leading to more enduring improvements than non-surgical treatments.

An endoscopic brow lift can significantly enhance the appearance of the upper face by elevating a sagging brow, which can reduce the appearance of hooded eyelids and create a more youthful and refreshed look. It can also smooth forehead wrinkles and creases. Reducing frown lines between the eyebrows can soften an angry or tired look.

The endoscopic brow lift can be tailored to meet each patient’s specific needs. It can also be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as eyelid surgery or a facelift, to achieve comprehensive aesthetic improvements.

An endoscopic brow lift offers numerous benefits, including minimal scarring, quicker recovery, enhanced precision, and long-lasting, natural-looking results. These advantages make it a preferred option for individuals seeking to improve the appearance of their upper face with minimal downtime and risk.
